Audi - A Quick Look

Audi's Strange Beginnings

As a car manufacturer, Audi is today a member of Germany's Big Three and has come to the forefront of technological and engineering sophistication in the automotive world.  Audi traces its origin to its founder August Horch's name. Horch was forced out of his original car company and was unable to use his own name to start another. As a result he subsequently formed a company named  'Audi' in 1909. This name was chosen because it was a Latin translation of Horch which means "Hark!" in German.

Audi's First Car

The first car fielded by Horch and company was the Audi Type A 10/22 hp Sport-Phaeton first came out of the factory line in 1910. The success of the car was almost instantaneous and gave Audi the boldness required to develop further vehicles.
